Dental crowns are an excellent treatment option and may be right for you! Crowns can fix functional problems, like broken down teeth, and esthetic problems. Over time, older fillings can break down, both weakening the teeth and causing "appearance" problems due to staining or chipping. In back (posterior) teeth with root canal fillings, crowns are necessary to support the teeth and prevent tooth fractures.
Crowns are a very reliable solution for major dental problems caused through accidents, disease, or excessive wear. Many problems can usually be corrected using these techniques. The materials used to make crowns are gold alloys, porcelain, and porcelain fused to metal (PFM).
How long does it take to fit a dental crown?
Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown.
On the subsequent visit we will remove the temporary crown, and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place and you have a new beautiful looking tooth.
